Privacy Policy for ContextSnip

Effective date: August 17, 2026

ContextSnip ("the extension," "we," "our") is a Chrome extension that lets you capture a region of your screen and analyze it using Google's Gemini API, with your own API key. This policy explains what data the extension handles.

What we do NOT do

ContextSnip has no servers of our own. We do not operate any backend, we do not collect analytics or telemetry, and we cannot see your captures, your API key, or your usage — there is no channel for that data to reach us.

What data is processed, and where it goes

Captured images and extracted text: when you snip a region of your screen, that image is sent directly from your browser to Google's Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com), using the API key you provide, so Gemini can analyze it and answer your follow-up questions. This is governed by Google's own privacy policy and the terms of the Gemini API. We never see or store a copy of this data ourselves.

Gemini API key: stored only in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local). It is sent only to Google's Gemini API, in request headers, for the sole purpose of authenticating your requests. It is never sent anywhere else, never logged, and never visible to us.

License key: if you purchase ContextSnip, your license key is stored locally the same way and is sent only to Lemon Squeezy's license-validation API (api.lemonsqueezy.com) to confirm it's active. See Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy.

Capture history: your past captures (images, extracted text, chat) are stored only locally on your device, in your browser's IndexedDB storage. They never leave your device except for the Gemini API calls described above.

Your controls

You can delete individual captures from the History tab at any time, or clear everything by removing the extension — this deletes all locally stored data immediately, since nothing exists anywhere else.

Children's privacy

ContextSnip is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a new effective date.
